Dragon's Head, Dragon's Tail

The Moon's Nodes -
casting light on your path of destiny
by Penny Unn

"The shape of the North Node's symbol metaphorically resembles a pair of headphones, through which we receive supportive directions from the universe for our life path."

Nestled amongst the planets within a horoscope chart drawn for time of birth, the two Moon's 'nodes' face each other at a distance, ready to reveal a wealth of information.

Forming an axis of opposing signs in a chart, the North and South nodes of the Moon provide vital information: the type of life path we each need to explore, to reach our greatest potential.

What's more, in the true nurturing style of the Moon, they also give us 'soul food' for life's journey - revealing the best ways for each of us to receive spiritual and emotional nourishment along the way.

What exactly are the Moon's Nodes?

They are the points where - at the moment of birth - the Moon's orbit around the Earth intersects the Earth's link around the Sun. The North Node, also known as the Dragon's Head, is the ascending point. The South Node, known as the Dragon's Tail, is the descending point. (The 'Dragon' is from Hindu mythology.)

As the Moon's nodes form an axis of opposing signs in the chart (if your North Node is in Aries, your South Node must be in Libra) they are also placed in opposing houses (chart sectors).

The sign and house of the North Node directs you towards the future, indicating qualities and areas of life you need to explore for personal growth and fulfillment.

The shape of the North Node's symbol metaphorically resembles a pair of headphones, through which we receive supportive directions from the universe for our life path.

However, it requires energy and willpower (qualities associated with the Sun) to activate the North Node. Once these energies are set in motion, the universe seems to feed new opportunities that nourish growth and provide a deep sense of purpose.
